How to Download Samsung Cloud Data Before It Disappears

Updated May 24: Samsung has extended data transfer times for Samsung Cloud users. We’ve updated the article below with new end dates and added more information about syncing Samsung Cloud with OneDrive.

Samsung cloud storage service is closing. The shutdown is phased out depending on where you live , but Samsung recently extended the deadline for all Group 1 regions, including the US, Australia, the UK and most of Europe. Group 1 users now have until July 30 to sync their Samsung Cloud data directly to Microsoft OneDrive for free, without having to first download it to another device.

Users can transfer their data from Samsung Cloud to OneDrive using Gallery, My Files, or Samsung Cloud applications on their smartphone. It’s easy to get started, but the full transfer will take longer if you have a lot of Samsung Cloud data to move.

Note that transferring data from Samsung Cloud to OneDrive is free, but some users may have to pay for extended storage after 12 months. Microsoft usually offers just 5GB of free storage, but Samsung Cloud users get 12 months free bonus storage to ensure that all their content is moved. If you don’t want to pay, you will need to bring your total data up to 5GB before the free additional storage expires.

The good news is OneDrive plans are pretty affordable starting at $ 2 / month for 100GB, so it won’t be expensive if you decide you can’t get data below 5GB.

Just make sure you have downloaded your data by then, as Samsung will begin deleting group 1 data starting September 30th.

Save Samsung Cloud Data to Mobile Device

  • Open the Samsung Cloud app and click Upload My Data. Select the files you want to download and click Download.
  • Open the Samsung Gallery app, tap the three-dot More icon, then go to Settings> Download Content from Cloud. Follow the instructions on the screen to start downloading.

Download progress is tracked in the notification bar. Please note that you will need enough space on your device to store the entire download size. Also make sure not to cancel the download earlier, as this will delete all downloaded files and you will need to restart the process.

Download Samsung Cloud Data to Your Computer

Another option is to download Samsung Cloud data to your computer. It is a good choice for users who have too much data to store on their phone, as PC hard drives are much larger and you can easily move downloaded files later to a USB stick or another cloud service like Google Drive, OneDrive or iCloud. You can access your files from the Samsung Cloud website or by installing the Samsung Gallery app for Windows 10 and going to Settings> Samsung Cloud.
