What’s New on HBO Max in June 2021

The last movie I watched in theaters before the pandemic made movie watching a vague memory was Cats , a notorious mistaken adaptation of an inexplicably popular Broadway musical. That it was tonight’s “rowdy” show of a popular podcast about bad movies only made me feel a little less unclean. How appropriate, then, that my first film – and completely soaked – could be much better musicals delayed a long delay adaptation impresario Hamilton Lin-Manuel Miranda, 2008 “In the Heights”, winner of Tony, about as evidenced by all the reports. to the screen of John M. Chu ( Crazy Rich Asians ). Either that or watch it on HBO Max when it streams on the same day, June 11th. Yes, for a year I was hoping for the opportunity to cry horribly in the theater during this movie – even the trailer that, if you think about it, played in front of Cats , made me a lump in my throat – but it turned out that after 15 months of researching new releases on demand from home I may not feel as ready to sit in the dark theater with strangers as I thought. I am not afraid of getting sick and am not against the science of vaccines; I guess I just forgot what joy is. Perhaps this musical chronicle of the colorful lives of Washington Heights will remind me. In the meantime, there is still plenty of new content on HBO Max to help me stay home in June, including another simultaneous theatrical / streaming premiere of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4); the streaming premiere of ” Kajillionaire,” the latest film by indie eccentric Miranda Julie (” Me, You, and Everyone We Know” ); and the return to HBO Max of the January serial killer thriller Little Things, starring weary-looking Denzel Washington and Jared Leto. The game is either brilliant (it was nominated for a Golden Globe) or terrible (if you ask anyone other than Hollywood. Foreign Press Association).

Here’s a list of everything HBO Max is coming (and going) in June 2021. Titles with (HBO) next to them are available on HBO and HBO Max; everything else is exclusive to HBO Max.
