Children’s Culture Guide for Adults: How Old Is Evan Hansen Again?

The Quick Start Guide hit the internet’s thick darkness last week , so this week we’ll try to keep it light as the flyweight struggles to reach his weight class. There is nothing more serious than eating pasta, molesting squirrels, zombies that have invaded Las Vegas, and the oldest “teenager” since Dick Clark took to the stage in the sky.

This week on false holidays: May 24 – Rigatoni Pasta Day.

According to my lead youth reporter (my niece Claire), April 24 is Rigatoni Pasta Day, an annual celebration where everyone is encouraged to eat rigatoni pasta. The meme-thing came from the TikTok account @ jimmyrules32 , which has been posting non-stop messages about this day since January 2020. His TikTok is pure dedication.

“What’s the difference?” I can hear you asking. Well, taking care of children. They care enough to ensure that # eatabowlofrigatonipastaonmay242021 has over 41 million views on TikTok, so if you want to be a cool uncle / aunt / mom / dad / sensei, serve a steaming plate of rigatoni on May 24, and if you really want to be cool. Top the rigatoni with Marcella Hazan’s Bolognese sauce . Believe me.

This Week in Old Teens: Dear Evan Hansen

Have you seen the trailer for the upcoming teen movieDear Evan Hansen ? It’s the funniest damn thing I’ve seen in years, and not just because I find teen suicide musicals hilarious. The film looks like a full-length version of Steve Buscemi ‘s film “How are you, friends? “Meme: Actor Ben Platt plays a 17-year-old high school student, but the dude looks at least 35. And not” young at 35 “either. More like a ‘just got divorced and start to recover’ program 35. He is clearly older than his mother.

Platt, salty, responded to the fun on the Internet with a (now deleted) tweet that said, “For the age-kinky randos, read this great article and / or watch the grease.”

I’m certainly not going to read this crap, but Platt is right about Grease . There is nothing new about old people playing schoolchildren, but this does not make everything less funny. In honor of Ben Platt check out three of my favorite versions of this joke:the filmNot for Another Teen Movie “, in which a woman over 70 years old teenager, hilarioussketch of Mr. Shaw,Adults are prohibited ‘ and the wholeseriesStrangers “with Candy.

This Week In Music: Demi Lovato Introduces Her New Pronouns

In a video posted on Twitter, pop star Demi Lovato made a splash in the culture with her gender non-binary performance. “I had a revelation that I consider non-binary,” they said in the video, “I will officially replace my pronouns with ‘they / they’.”

According to Lovato, new pronouns best represent the fluidity they feel in their gender expression. “I do this for those who could not share with their loved ones who they really are. Please continue to live your truths and know that I am sending you so much love, ”Lovato tweeted.

If you are old and not in the know, like me, you are probably thinking, “Huh? Now what? “about how people change pronouns, but after thinking about it for 43 seconds, I came to the conclusion that everyone should just call people what they want and generally go about their business.

Live This Week: Army of the Dead

It’s been too long since a good zombie movie came out and a good heist movie came out too long ago. Fortunately, the drought ended for both of them this Friday with the release of Army of the Dead by Zach Snyder.

Set in post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, this mix of zombie-kill-all and thief-all-thieves genres includes zombie tigers, zombie show girls, Elvis zombie impersonators and a squad of cool mercenaries. to the quarantine zone to steal hundreds of millions of dollars. So, this is pretty much the best early summer movie, and I don’t even need to watch it to tell you about it.

Fromthe trailer , Snyder, whose past work includes Justice League, 300, Man of Steel and this stunning Dawn of the Dead reboot, is the man who balances the humor, horror, and action that epic.

Viral Video of the Week: Backyard Squirrel Maze 2.0 – The Walnut Heist

YouTuber Mark Robert has a squirrel problem. Little rodents won’t stop invading his backyard feeder to steal sweet, sweet bird food. Instead of poisoning them or moving them over, Robert built a challenging heist-based obstacle course and then got the squirrels to figure it out. I’m talking about a complete maze of air ducts, erratic moving ledges, a little helicopter ride, and more. If the guys make it to the end, the reward will be sweet: more walnuts than they could eat in a lifetime!

This video is notable for both the thoughtful and meticulous elaboration of obstacles and the charm of the squirrel characters – by the end of the film you are really immersed in solving them.
