Now Your Android Phone Can Tell Who Is Calling

The Google Phone app can now announce caller ID loudly for incoming phone calls, so you know who is calling without looking at your phone. The new feature is available worldwide for all Android phones that use the Google Phone app for making calls.

Caller ID announcements may not seem like a big new feature, but they can be useful in many situations.

Most people check their Caller ID before answering a phone call if their phone is nearby, but sometimes your phone rings when it’s across the room or when you are doing something else, like washing dishes. Suddenly, you have to decide: quickly stop what you are doing so you can check the caller ID before the phone stops ringing, or ignore it and miss a potentially important call.

Caller ID announcements also make it easier to check unwanted calls, especially when combined with Google Assistant’s call screening capabilities. And it’s an important accessibility feature for visually impaired people who rely on audible feedback and voice commands to control their smartphones.

Whatever the reason, having Caller ID ads available in one of the most widely used Android phone calling apps means you can enable it right on your phone without the need for third-party apps.

How to enable caller ID announcements on Android

Please install the latest updates of the Google Phone app first, or download it from the Google Play store if it is not installed on your device.

By updating the app to the latest version, you can enable Caller ID announcements in your Google Phone settings:

  1. Open the Google Phone app.
  2. Tap the three-dot icon, then choose Settings> Caller Announcement.
  3. Tap Announce Caller ID, then select one of the options: Always, Headset Only, or Never. You can close the application when finished.
  4. The next time you receive a call, the caller ID will be read aloud.
