A Guide to Children’s Culture for Adults: Is Elon Musk Funny?

This week we take a look at the dark, chilling side of youth culture, including the scattering of garbage in Russia, the deadly dangers of TikTok and, worst of all, Elon Musk’s comedy.

The dark world of streaming garbage

Earning clicks (and money) by going too far is a time-honored internet tradition. While things like this are mostly innocuous pranks and tricks like youtuber, Mr. Beastfilling his brother’s house with goo (and then buying him a new house), the other side of the “extreme” coin is “Trash Streaming” darker.

These video streamers coming out of Russia are like the internet version of shock radio stations. They mostly get drunk, stream videos, and get viewer advice in exchange for antics. Are drunk Russians paying each other for debauchery? What could possibly have gone wrong?

How about this: Sixty-year-old Yuri “Grandfather” Dushechkin died back in February after drinking 1.5 liters of vodka during a live broadcast, reportedly after a YouTube host offered money. Belarusian scavenger Andrei Burim smashed the model Alena Efremova on a table while thousands watched her, and then mocked her in the press . Good dude. Stas Rifley, a Russian streamer, was sentenced to six years in prison for killing his pregnant girlfriend after a viewer reportedly paid $ 1,000 to watch him mock her. The Russian authorities are allegedly looking for ways to outlaw content.

Warnings of the week

If you’re looking for something new to worry about this week, here are some interesting dangers. Warn your kids to avoid all of this … if you really don’t like them.

On TV this week: Elon Musk hosts SNL

As I am warning you this week, let me add one thing: if you are a charismatic deficit plutocrat, do not live Saturday night . In his debut hosting, Elon Musk, the scandalous CEO of Tesla and the famous crappy Twitter poster, earned high ratings, pissed off activists and brought down the cryptocurrency market. Not bad for 90 minutes of late night TV.

Musk started the show by proclaiming himself “the first person with Asperger’s” to host SNL (I think he forgot about Dan Aykroyd ), then he did a few sketches in which the previous worst host, Nancy Kerrigan, looked fantastic. … He starred in a sketch that insulted Twitter and then called Dogecoin a “fuss,” causing the cryptocurrency to plunge 22 percent. The best moments of Musk’s SNL flop were when he introduced Miley Cyrus. (Miley Cyrus is the best.)

Viral Video of the Week: “I Survived $ 0.01 in 1 Week”

I’m a fan of videos where people try to live off their brains and hard work, and YouTuber Ryan Trahan takes pride in the genre with his multi-part miniseries. He made it his mission to survive for a week in a small Texas town, starting with just a penny, documenting it all on YouTube, and raising nearly $ 12,000 for Central Texas Food Bank (as well as nearly four million views of his video).

He started out by exchanging a penny for a pen, sold a pen, and then went to the races with all sorts of schemes, from selling candy to passers-by to delivering for DoorDash. I love the idea that a person can still push forward with old-fashioned boldness, savvy, and elbow grease, although I have to imagine being a charismatic, energetic, and handsome kid with a winning personality is a definite advantage when trying to fuss with street sales.Worth checking out anyway.

This Week In The Movies: Ultraman Comes To Netflix

If you’re into giant monster fighting, Netflix has a movie for you. Strimingovy service has teamed up with the Japanese Tsuburuaya Productions on film Ultraman.

The ultra-human, who first appeared in America on the incredibly stunning 1970s TV show, has become a household name in Japan and it is hoped that he will make his way to an international audience. Sadly, the new version of Ultraman is CGI, so it won’t have guys in rubber suits rushing to each other in model cities, but it promises an alter ego for Ultraman, baseball star Ken Sato raising a baby Kaiju, a cute little kid. a monster, the offspring of his greatest enemy. This idea has certain possibilities. No release date or casting info yet, but stay tuned.
