Install IOS 14.5.1 to Fix These Two Serious Vulnerabilities

Even if you just installed iOS 14.5 – you are using a new operating system, is the time correct? -This is to take a trip back to the app’s settings and grab the just released update from Apple that patches a number of important iOS vulnerabilities. While all security updates are critical, it fixes two vulnerabilities that are actively exploited in the wild.

In other words, don’t wait. You might be tempted as it looks like a little update and all, and you need to use your iPhone or iPad for something else right now, so maybe later . If that’s you, make sure you at least turn on automatic updates in Settings> General> Software Updates , but in fact you should take a few minutes to download and install the update right now.

As Apple describes in its Security Notes , iOS 14.5.1 addresses two WebKit issues that could allow an attacker to remotely execute code on your device if you visit a website that’s configured to exploit the vulnerabilities. As for the complete fanatic of what Apple has fixed:

  • A memory corruption issue was addressed with improved state management.
  • Integer overflow was fixed with improved input validation.

While the chances are good that you probably won’t face such attacks, there is no reason to wait to fix your iOS version. The update is 100MB or so in size, which shouldn’t take long to download over Wi-Fi. (I wouldn’t waste my data doing this over a cellular connection.) In fact, in the time it took me to write this paragraph, my iPhone had already downloaded and started preparing the update — the last process took about five minutes or so. to get through my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Of course, your personal results may vary.

Once downloaded and processed, you will need to click Install Now to install the update. Your iPhone or iPad will restart and you can continue working in another 5-7 minutes.

Overall, I would say that the entire update process took me about 15 minutes, including downloading, preparing and installing the update. Of course, this is a little longer than I expected, but try to do it at some point during the day. Let the update begin while you’re in a work meeting, relaxing in the bathroom, or heating up dinner.
