Use Two Types of Bait to Get Rid of the Infestation of Ants

Fighting the infestation of ants is rude and frustrating – once you think they’re finally gone, they come back with a vengeance. If you want to rid your home of ants permanently , you need to figure out where they come from and what they eat in order to choose the right bait.

Ants can be picky about their food, but believe it or not, they have a preference. The species that enter your home are usually classified as “sugar ants” or “greasy ants” depending on which food appeals to them the most, and there is a difference in which type of bait works best. For sugar ants, this is clearly something sweet, like honey, jam, or even just sugar water. Fat ants love protein as well as fat, so any kind of nut butter is ideal. Just pick bait, mix it with powdered brown or liquid ant killer (which is also brown, but more effective), toss it on a piece of waxed paper and boom – you have ant traps.

If you’re not entirely sure whether to use sugar or greasy bait, the good news is you don’t have to choose. In fact, you should always use both, at least first. Set up a sugar and fat trap at the ants’ entry point, then see which one they like best. In the worst case, you will waste a tablespoon of peanut butter or sugar; in the best case scenario, you will actually catch more ants. Some species (especially carpenter ants) love to eat everything , so using two different types of bait increases your chances of killing them all.

Killing ants takes time and effort, but once you know which bait to use, you are on the right track. With that said, some infestations are more than homemade solutions can handle. If you’ve cleaned up all the spills, repaired every crack, and went through a whole tube of liquid ant killer and they still refuse to die, it’s time to go to the professionals. The fighter will be able to find the source of infection and destroy it forever.
