Get $ 50 Southwest Travel Fee for Your Post Vaccination Travel

Ahead of its 50th anniversary, Southwest Airlines is offering limited spring / fall sales starting at $ 50 each way. While the sale is mostly for domestic flights, Southwest’s limited selection of international flights have been lowered as well. Here’s what you need to know.

How the deal works

There are several decent rates. Some of the lowest fares include:

  • Atlanta – Nashville for $ 50
  • Baltimore – Chicago for $ 50
  • Chicago – Miami for $ 50
  • Chicago – Nashville for $ 50
  • Dallas – Chicago for $ 50
  • Houston – New Orleans for $ 50
  • Los Angeles – Las Vegas for $ 50
  • Los Angeles – San Francisco for $ 50
  • Miami – Atlanta for $ 50
  • Phoenix – San Diego for $ 50
  • San Diego – San Francisco for $ 50

These non-refundable discounted fares can be booked through Southwest’s low-cost booking site until May 3, and tickets must be purchased 21 days prior to travel date (in which case, if you want to travel in mid-May, you want to book now).

There are good prices on other domestic routes as well, often in the $ 60-80 range per one-way flight. Also, international flights to Mexico and the Caribbean are about $ 100 off, although the selection is more limited based on my own research on their booking site.

When to book

The deal is actually for two seasons of travel and has some days of the week that the sale is not eligible for. You can book for the spring from May 7 to May 26; and for autumn – from September 7 to November 5 (in Hawaii, the dates are slightly different, from August 9 to November 5).

Unless otherwise noted, travel to the continental United States is not valid on Fridays and Sundays, international travel is valid only Monday through Thursday (excluding Mexico, which runs Tuesday through Friday). This is a bit confusing, so you might be better off digging through their booking site to see which calendar dates offer the best deals.

CDC continues to call for caution

The CDC does not recommend that you travel unless you are vaccinated, which means a full two weeks after your second dose. Even if you are vaccinated, you still have to practice social distancing and wear a mask, but quarantine is not required. Be sure to read CDC instructions before booking your flight .
