How to Download Music and Podcasts From Spotify to Mobile, Desktop and Internet

Spotify is easy to take for granted – as long as the slow streaming speed or lack of internet connection prevents you from listening to some tunes or watching your favorite podcast. Luckily, Spotify now lets you download music and podcasts to your smartphone or computers so you can keep listening even when you’re offline. This option comes in handy if you are going on a long trip to places with unstable mobile service. Listening to downloaded content instead of streaming it from Spotify servers also helps to cut down on monthly data usage.

You can download content on the Spotify apps for Android, iOS, Mac and Windows, or from the Spotify web player, but the download permissions are different for different account types:

  • Premium Spotify users can download complete playlists and podcast episodes.
  • Free users can download podcasts.

Unfortunately, Spotify doesn’t allow you to download entire albums or even individual tracks; you need to save the songs you want to download to a playlist first. However, you can download as many playlists and podcasts as your device’s memory allows.

The downloaded content will stay in your Spotify offline library for as long as you want, but you will need to connect to the Spotify server at least once every 30 days to check your account status. If you don’t, your access to the downloaded songs will expire.
