What’s New on Amazon Prime Video in April 2021

The newest original Amazon Prime Video series will immerse you in a completely different kind of American horror story. THEM, from Little Marvin creator and producer Lena White ( Master of None ), is an anthology show that explores a different story each season, and judging by the trailer, the first seems to combine elements of Lovecraft Country and the work of Jordan Peele (fact, which led to some unflattering comparisons on Twitter ) as it follows the unsettling experience of the Black family, who moved to an all-white suburb of Los Angeles in the 1950s.

Of course, at this point it seems unfair to regard a show starring Ashley Thomas, Deborah Ayorinde, Shahadi Wright Joseph and Melody Khurdas as a robbery of Lovecraft Country or Nas Saw; this does not mean that the genre is not big enough to fit into more than one show or film that transforms the black American experience into a metaphor. The early hype is positive, and the aforementioned trailer is steeped in great period detail, suggesting it has a good chance of attracting fans even in the face of surplus streaming in 2021. Otherwise this month, your Prime membership will give you access to another Tom Clancy co-op (after Jack Ryan led by John Krasinski); Without Remorse (April 30), based on Clancy’s novel of the same name, features former Navy Seal John Kelly (award-winning Michael B. Jordan) uncovering, wait, an international conspiracy. Prime in April.
