Boost Your Xbox Download Speed With This Setting

Xbox consoles slow down download speeds while you are playing a game to reduce the impact on online functionality or multiplayer performance. While downloads are currently faster when the Xbox is at rest, Microsoft will soon allow players to speed up download speeds while the console is still on, with a new “Pause My Game” option in the Xbox Download Manager.

According to Xbox Development Lead Eden Marie, selecting “Pause My Game” pauses the bandwidth your games are using and instead allows your downloads to run at full speed.

You can resume your gameplay at any time if you choose to continue playing and let your downloads go into the background. Xbox Series X / S users can even use console quick resume to resume playing while gameplay has been paused.

Pause My Play is available in the latest Xbox Insider Control Panel update for Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One. You can download the Xbox Insider Hub app from the Microsoft Store to join the Insider Program and try it out early on, but will be rolling out to all Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One consoles in the coming weeks.

How to pause Xbox games to speed up downloads

Here’s how to use the new Pause My Game download increase feature when it becomes available on your Xbox:

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide menu.
  2. Go to My Games & Apps> View All> Manage> Queue.
  3. On the Manage Queue page, select Pause My Game. Your console’s download speed will increase automatically.
  4. When the download is complete, you can resume the game where you left off.

Xbox Insiders may have tried cool things like Pause My Game earlier, but Microsoft is constantly adding new features to its consoles for all users. The latest monthly update adds a new FPS boost mode that increases frame rates for backward-compatible games on Xbox Series X / S, fixes some long-term controller disconnect errors, and more. Make sure your system is updated regularly .
