Record and Share Your Best Mobile Game Clips With GameOn
Despite the growing popularity of mobile games, recording or streaming games for smartphones is much more difficult than for console games. To fill this gap, Amazon launched GameOn, a social media platform and video app for mobile games similar to YouTube. Users can watch and follow the content creators in the app, or use it to record, edit, and upload their own clips.
The app is available for Android (via Amazon or Google Play ) and iOS / iPadOS and supports over 1000 mobile games. Amazon doesn’t have an official list of all games, but popular games like PUBG, Mario Kart Tour, and Genshin Impact support GameOn, and you can use it to record Apple Arcade games. You can also watch GameOn content in your desktop browser .
Before you can download clips, you need a GameOn account. You can create a new one in the app, or link it to an existing Amazon account (oddly enough, the app doesn’t integrate with Twitch, which Amazon also owns).
How to record, edit and publish clips with the GameOn app
- In the GameOn app, click the “+” button at the bottom of the screen to prepare a new entry.
- Tap the slider at the top of the next screen to choose a capture method. “Classic” will record up to 5 minutes of gameplay. It’s good for capturing real-time gameplay. Recall mode captures the last few moments of gameplay whenever you hit the record button. Turn on this mode if you want the footage to be saved after it has happened.
- Set the recording duration. The app allows you to save 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes or five minutes per clip.
- Press the red button to start recording or reviewing.
Recording will automatically end after the allotted time, but you can also manually stop recording. There are three ways to stop an active recording:
- Tap the red recording icon at the top of the screen.
- Click the Stop Recording button in the GameOn app.
- Or open the iOS Action Center and hit the red record button.
After capturing a game clip, you can edit the footage in the GameOn app. The app lets you trim footage, add audio commentary, and even insert intros and reactions using your phone’s selfie camera. When your clip is ready to publish, you can upload it to GameOn for others to watch, or save it as a sharing link that you can send to your friends.
