Buy and Play These Super Mario Games Before They Go
Nintendo has released several Mario games over the past year to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the mustachioed mascot, but two of them are Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Bros. 35 – only available until March 31st. After that, both will be excluded from the list. on the Nintendo Switch eShop and physical copies of Super Mario 3D All-Stars will no longer be printed. No one knows if Nintendo will ever re-release these games.
As for Super Mario 3D All-Stars (which combines Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy into one game), you can still play the game as long as you own it physically or digitally. The cartridge will always work, and the digital version can be re-uploaded to the switch even after it is removed from the online store. While you will no longer be able to buy the version from the online store, you can find boxed copies of Super Mario 3D All-Stars online and in stores, although you will eventually have to pay more for it. Expect new and used copies to go up in price once Nintendo ceases production.
Thankfully, boxed copies of Super Mario 3D All-Stars are at a slight discount at the time of writing. Instead of the usual $ 60, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is on sale for $ 50 on Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. We don’t know how long this sale will last (Nintendo games rarely go on sale), so grab a copy now before shipping runs out. As for the digital version, it still costs $ 60 online, but buying it now ensures you don’t have to look for an overpriced boxed copy later.
Unfortunately, this does not apply to the free competitive multiplayer game Super Mario Bros. 35 . It will be removed from the online store on March 31st and Nintendo will shut down servers immediately. Since the game is only available online, you will no longer be able to play it.
For those who haven’t tried it yet, Super Mario Bros. 35 is a competitive take on the classic NES Super Mario Bros. where players go through the original levels, but every enemy you step on is sent to another player’s game. The last player remaining wins the match. It launched on October 1, 2020, so it was only playable for six months. If you want to try the game, be sure to download it and play it before March 31st.
Nintendo also released Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury on Switch and added the original Super Mario All-Stars games to the SNES collection of free SNES games for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers for the 35th Mario, but they will remain available after March 31st.
