How to Use Spatial Audio on AirPods Pro and Max
When Apple announced the launch of its expensive AirPods Max , they singled out a new, unheard-of feature: what they called “spatial audio.” Sure, “spatial audio” is a term Apple coined for selling headphones, but it’s basically the surround sound inside your headphones.
There are several steps and considerations to not only enable spatial audio, but also to ensure that the content you are watching can even improve your listening experience. First open “ Settings” on your device, then tap “ Bluetooth” . Find your headphones in the list of Bluetooth devices, then click the “i” button next to the device name and enable spatial audio.
In addition to the aforementioned headphones (or those that are compatible with AirPods Pro), you will need a device that supports spatial audio, namely:
- iPhone 7 or newer
- iPad 6th generation or later
- iPad Pro 3rd generation or later
- iPad Air 4th generation or later
- iPad mini 5th generation or later
And then you need to make sure your content source provides compatible audio! On your streaming provider, look for notes or information about the title you want to watch and see if it supports Dolby Atmos, 5.1ch, or 7.1 surround sound. After all this, you are finally ready to observe something, the noise of which enters your head from all sides.
