How to Enable the New Kid Mode in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft is testing a new “Kids Mode” for Edge, which makes the browser safer for younger users with just a few clicks.

Edge already has several family features, but these settings need to be manually configured and applied to everyone in the family group. However, Kid Mode can be turned on or off by parents and comes with enhanced security and built-in content filters, including Blocked Sites, Bing Safe Search, and Browser Family Themes.

Children’s Mode is still in development, but you can try it out at the start of the latest Edge Canary build. It will then appear in the developer build, and then should be available in the stable build sometime in the future. If you download Edge Canary Kids Mode, keep in mind that it will be installed as a separate version of Edge, so if you’re trying to keep your kids safe from certain content you’ll need to make sure they are using Edge Canary. instead of the regular version. It’s also important to note that Edge Canary is full of other unfinished features and tweaks that can cause random crashes and other errors.

How to turn on kid mode

Whether you’re testing Edge’s Child Mode before or waiting for it to hit a more stable version, it’s easy to enable it: open your browser, then click your profile picture in the upper right corner and select Child Mode.

When Kid Mode is on, Edge will deny access to a list of predefined websites, which you can change by going to Settings> Family Safety . This menu also includes activity reports and lets you manage all other profiles and devices your family uses. Bing will also be permanently set to “Safe Search” when the browser is in child mode.

Finally, Kid Mode can be customized with the browser’s own kid-friendly themes – just click the settings icon in a new tab and select Custom and then Control under Background Image.
