Rethink This Valentine’s Gift From Anonymous

Your anonymous love note with the good intentions of unrequited love won’t make anyone swoon last Valentine, and still won’t be this year. Maybe you think that sending an affectionate cryptic letter will make the wheels turn in the recipient’s head, giving hope that there is someone (you) destined to knock him off his feet, but unfortunately, you can forget about all this. Love today and today does not follow the storybook script, if it ever existed, and there are reasons why an anonymous love note, bouquet, or box of chocolates could land with a thud in someone’s trash can.

He can be seen as immature

It’s one thing to be in third grade and feel embarrassed to tell someone you like them, but it’s another to be an adult showing the emotional maturity of a shy third grader. If you’re serious about starting a relationship – even if you just want to experience the water – it’s best to be direct. Being insecure about your feelings doesn’t mean that you will necessarily be the emotional foundation in a relationship.

You should also ask yourself what the point of hiding your identity might be. Is it because the person you are professing to love is in a relationship and you don’t want to drive a wedge into them, even if they are? Are you trying to trick them into loving you by making them feel the thrill of the gift and then joining in afterward? You’re not actually doing anyone a favor by signing an anonymous love letter on Valentine’s Day.

It can sound creepy (especially for women)

As it happens in the movies, the anonymous rose can work wonders when sent to a woman stuck in a loveless marriage. Perhaps the sender really understands the specified woman, and her husband does not care. There is a reason this is a pop culture stereotype: because it rarely, if ever, turns out that way.

If you are a man, you should also consider that a woman may read an anonymous note and worry about being stalked. It’s the sad reality that predators exist, and it’s probably a cold comfort knowing that whoever sent you the package may not really have the best intentions in mind.

You may be mistaken for someone else

How much space do you want to leave for a complete fire? In one of several possible disaster scenarios, the object of your affection may have mistakenly assumed that your message was sent by someone else. What if your love is looking for this person? It goes without saying that if you deliberately omit your name, your feelings may go unnoticed, and who really benefits?

All of this means that you should feel comfortable sending someone a love note or gift this Valentine’s Day, just make sure it also comes with complete transparency of who the gift is from.
