How to Make a Holiday Gift Without Ruining a Surprise
The packages in my family open as soon as they arrive, so it is very important to keep holiday gifts separate from the standard packages. Half the fun of Christmas is opening presents on Christmas morning and you don’t want anyone to open a new tablet because you made them think it was the deodorant they ordered. Fear not, you can take back control with this tiny trick to help your gifts open the bags they need for Christmas.
Order a product as a gift
This sounds like an obvious answer, but it’s worth saying: After you’ve selected your online product, go to your shopping cart and look for the option to select “This is a gift.” A form should appear allowing you to specify who the gift is for and include a message. The receipt of the gift (and the note) will mean to the recipient that it is really a gift so that he does not spoil his surprise. (And they can keep a gift slip that hides the price you paid and allows them to return the item.)
Write your message in the address bar
To avoid losing your gift vouchers and enjoy the Christmas surprise, add “gift for …” to your address bar. This is an added precaution for your holiday packages, you should still select “this is a gift” before leaving. When the gift is delivered, the shipping label outside of the box will have a “gift for …” printed on the shipping label so that the recipient can easily recognize the package as a gift and throw it under the tree to save money on Christmas. Mix that with “Santa” or some other funny character in the address bar, and not just for children – a gift from Santa will make my day a grown-up, and it’s a nice touch of holiday mood.
Make sure your gift is mailed
Depending on the seller and location, some items cannot be sent as gifts – please note if you are shipping overseas through something like the Amazon Global Store. As Amazon notes : “These options are not available for the Amazon Global Store. If these options are not available for other items, you will see the note “We’re sorry. This item cannot be gift wrapped or shipped with a note. ” This also applies to their gift wrapping option . Some items cannot be packaged due to their size or shape, so keep that in mind if you want to go the gift-wrapped route. If you’re talking to a small family business, ask their options for mail-safe packaging and labeling – many do their best as one of the many benefits of small purchases.
