Combine Wine, Whiskey and Jam for a Fruity Drink by the Fireplace

I expected the pandemic to have many unexpected ramifications, but one thing I couldn’t predict was how my alcohol tolerance would plummet. It turns out that I really am a drunkard, and without a bar to hang out in, the previously standard evening of three cocktails is completely ruining me, which I have not experienced since 25 years.

This is probably good overall, and as a side effect, I drank more wine and fewer hard drinks. But seeing as today is Friday and we’re getting really close to Christmas, I thought it might be fun to pair new loves with old flames and make Geoe, a fortified cocktail wine that’s perfect for sipping in front of the fire.

It’s kind of like the jam sour that I love so much, except that there is no citrus juice, the wine acts as a base alcohol, and bourbon becomes a modifier. Bonne Maman Four Fruits or something very similar will work for you.

I suspected that I would like this combination of flavors, but I liked it even more than I thought. It is sweet, slightly sour and a bit like mulled wine, only fruity, not spicy. You can of course add a cinnamon stick if you like, although this will increase the amount of ingredients to four. To prepare this fortified drink, you will need:

  • 2 ounces dry red wine
  • 1 ounce bourbon (I used 100 bourbon bottles)
  • 2 tablespoons Bonna Maman Four Fruits

Add everything to an ice-filled cocktail shaker and shake until the shaker is very cold. Strain through a fine sieve into a compartment glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick, if you have one. Drink from an open fire.
