How to Eat Rum Pie for Breakfast

It is a well-documented fact that one of the main benefits of wafer cooking is the subsequent increase in textured surface. These peaks and valleys offer crisp, crunchy and (sometimes) caramelization, and also act as small saucepans. But the deeper magic of the waffle iron lies in its ability to make any “perfect breakfast”.

Want to eat an egg roll for breakfast (and feel like breakfast)? The waffle iron has covered you. How about a cake ? What about mac and cheese ? After eating the waffle, it looks like the waffle , which is the breakfast food, which means that the waffle food is now the breakfast food. I call this “The Law of Disordered Transfer” and I will submit an article on this subject to many excellent academic journals.

With the holidays now, I can’t imagine why we can’t apply this law (real and scientific) to one of the many booze-soaked cakes that appear in grocery stores the day after Thanksgiving. Yes, I suggest you eat rum pie for breakfast. Actually, I prescribe.

Making rum cake, amaretto cake, or any pre-packaged cake with booze is one of the easiest ways to indulge yourself. Slice the cake, press it between the two waffle iron plates for a little over a minute – until it is slightly brown around the edges – then gently remove it from the waffle iron and place it in your mouth. (I use chopsticks to pull it out of the grooves and slide it over the spatula.) That’s all, done.

The more alcohol and syrup your cake is, the better it will be a waffle cake. The Tortuga brand rum cake is especially suitable for waffles. The edges become caramelized and crispy, while the inside remains tender and warm. Plus, it looks like a cross between donut and cake (because of the hole), which is a lot of fun. The amaretto pie I made with the waffles was also quite delicious – like almond pound pie, only with a light crisp on the outside.

Rum Waffle Pie is a perfectly acceptable breakfast (because it’s now waffles), but it will also be the star foundation on which to make sundae. Either way, fresh fruit is a great addition. So is the cranberry sauce. As well as a cup of hot coffee.
