What’s New on HBO Max in December 2020

When Warner Bros. announced that Wonder Woman 1984 will drop out of exclusive theatrical appearances this winter to premiere on HBO’s Max streaming service, even though it has played in several theaters that have not been closed by the raging pandemic , it marked a turning point of sorts. … After that, going to the movies may never be the same again.

Of course, I’m thrilled to see Patty Jenkins’ sequel to her 2017 superhero blockbuster as soon as possible, and as much as I wish it would happen on a huge screen in a movie theater, well … no thanks . I’ll be watching it from my couch shortly after it streams on December 25 – it will be available on HBO Max for just 31 days – and with mixed feelings, exacerbated by the recent announcement that the same picture will be repeated for Warner Bros. … ‘the entire slate film of 2021 . It’s horrible to imagine seeing, say, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune on your laptop, or not crying in public while watching John Chu’s adaptation of In The Heights by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

That said, it’s definitely a boon for HBO Max subscribers. I have already argued that this is one of the best streaming services for moviegoers and will become practically essential next year. For example, not even limited to this month’s big blockbuster debut, the streamer is adding a great mix of classic and recent films, original premieres and TV series. If you haven’t signed up yet, now is the time.

That’s all for HBO and HBO Max in December. Titles with (HBO) next to them are available on all HBO services. Everything else is exclusive to HBO Max.
