What’s on at Disney + in December 2020
We will officially quarantine two Pixar films on Christmas Day. Back in March, right before the pandemic, the idea of going to a movie in a movie theater was as ludicrous and reckless as trying to reasonably discuss the issue. politics with their kin, Disney released Pixar’s Onward , a very cute film about two elf brothers traveling through a modern, monster-filled world in search of a way to bring their dead father back to life, if only for a day. It turned out to be ineffective at the box office, which would happen when all the checkouts were closed, but came as a pleasant surprise when Disney decided to add it to its Disney + streaming service months later .
With a spike in morbidity and movie theater closings, Mouse made an undeniably painful decision to ditch her big winter animated film, Pixar’s Soul , straight to Disney +, ditching theaters entirely (and hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue). It’s hard to be too happy with the circumstances, but on the other hand, maybe now is the time for a movie with this message. “Soul” (premiere December 25) plays Jamie Foxx as a talented musician who suddenly dies and accidentally ends up not in the afterlife, but in a previous life – a place where souls hang out until they are born on Earth. There he must convince the reluctant soul that its future is worth the struggle. (Given the year we’ve had, I’m not sure I agree.)
Otherwise Disney + adds a few original films to his meager lineup of content this month, said the Christmas holidays magazine titled “The Cold Heart” and completes the second season of “Mandalorian”. Here is the full rundown.
