Do You Really Need to Pre-Order the IPhone 12 Mini or Pro Max?

Get coffee in standby, pre-orders for Apple’s latest two iPhone 12 models begin Friday morning at 5 a.m. PT. While the iPhones on sale are the extremes of Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup – the equally expensive iPhone 12 Pro Max and the thinner iPhone 12 Mini – I expect at least one of them to sell well enough that a delayed pre-order could lead to unfortunate delay in delivery.

Apple already appears to have had some trouble keeping up with demand for the iPhone 12 Pro, with pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro starting on October 16, a little over half a month ago. While availability for the regular iPhone 12 is fairly stable (I could have delivered one to me tomorrow if I wanted to), ordering the iPhone 12 Pro currently leaves you waiting about three to four weeks before Apple can ship it to you.

Should you pre-order the iPhone 12 Mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max Friday? I guess it depends on which model you choose.

Don’t worry about pre-ordering the iPhone 12 Mini

You’ll probably be fine if you don’t want to wake up at dawn to keep the tiny iPhone 12 Mini safe. Enjoy your morning, I think the iPhone 12 Mini will still be available without much delay throughout the day. And if I’m wrong, I don’t think you will have to wait very long – no more than a week or two – to get the iPhone 12 Mini when you decide to order it.

While everyone loves to talk about how much they liked the iPhone SE form factor, I suspect that most people who were going to make the big upgrade to the iPhone 12 went ahead and opted for the normal-sized version of the phone. The iPhone 12 costs just $ 100 more than the smaller iPhone 12 Mini, it came out earlier, it offers a great balance between physical size and screen size, and has the same features you’ll find in the iPhone 12 Mini. You don’t gain or lose anything, except for an apparently larger device.

Another problem with the release of Apple iPhone Mini 12 is the fact that most people who were obsessed with tiny phones, such as the original iPhone SE, probably at the beginning of this year’s updated iPhone SE until the second generation. Remember this? April 2020 seems like a thing of the past, but that’s when Apple released an enhanced successor to the original iPhone SE. I think it would be foolish on Apple’s part if the company knew it was preparing an even better tiny iPhone that would drop in six months, but I don’t know what the ROI is. That, or perhaps Apple thought there were actually enough people who would want to go from an old phone to a second generation iPhone SE and an iPhone 12 Mini.

Anyway, I think these are the factors that make the iPhone 12 Mini more attractive at the moment. I think it will still sell decently, but I wouldn’t be too worried about Apple running out of stock of this. And it looks like it’s a lot easier to manufacture than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

IPhone 12 Pro Max is probably worth getting up early

I’ve already talked about the delays in the release of the iPhone 12 Pro, and reading stories about Apple allegedly cannibalizing its iPads in order to produce more of its flagship “professional” iPhones does not give me much confidence. While the iPhone 12 Pro Max is a coherent whole , and to be honest, it’s more of a phone than most people are likely to be comfortable with, but there is also a subgroup of Apple fans who have resisted it no matter what . Even though these people will probably be annoyed to shove the iPhone 12 Pro Max in their jeans pockets – if it fits – the iPhone 12 Pro Max is without a doubt the best iPhone from Apple.

This presents us with an interesting pre-order scenario. I think it will sell enough to cause some delays, like the launch of the iPhone 11 Pro Max last year. They won’t be as big as the delays for the regular-sized iPhone 12 Pro as there won’t be such a large audience to invest in a giant phone that costs $ 1,100 to start with – in fact, $ 1,200 as most people should choose the smarter one. the 256 GB version instead of the 128 GB version. However, if you want an iPhone 12 Pro Max, I would light the bullet and wake up early to pre-order.

This also applies to those of you who are undecided about this form factor. As we said earlier, don’t forget that you have two full weeks to try out your new iPhone and return it to Apple for a full refund if you’re unhappy. Of course, be careful not to drop your new iPhone, but it’s better to have your iPhone close at hand and change your mind than deciding after a few weeks that you really need the new iPhone 12 Pro Max. Then you might have to wait to get it, like the way I’ve been waiting for the iPhone 12 Pro for weeks right now.

Don’t forget the basic iPhone pre-order strategies

While there probably won’t be a massive land grab for the iPhone at 5am (or ever), the same general pre-order rules apply . Get billing and shipping information with your Apple ID now and make sure you’re using Touch ID or Face ID to verify your purchases instead of wasting time typing your Apple ID password. If you’re unlucky with the Apple Store, remember that your mobile carrier also sells iPhones, and you may have better luck (via their website or app).

Also set up the iPhone you want right now, add it to your favorites, and you can quickly purchase that particular setting tomorrow – instead of having to click or click all the options again.

And of course, if you are already a member of the iPhone update program, make sure you open the Apple Store app on your device and go through all the required pre-authorizations. This is not the kind of thing you want to deal with early tomorrow morning, and it will only delay you from getting the brand new iPhones that you are looking for.
