Can I Cancel My Regal Unlimited Subscription?
Days after Regal announced it would indefinitely close its US cinemas, we now know what will happen to their unlimited subscription program, which launched last July. The good news is that if you are a subscriber, you won’t be charged for movies you can’t see (or lose rewards you can’t get), but it looks like you can’t cancel those contracts early either. …
Monthly subscription
As reported on the company’s website, from the moment the unlimited subscribers are signed, monthly payments will not be charged. Unlimited memberships can still be used until the end of the day on Thursday 8 October, after which time all Regal theaters will be closed. Monthly contracts will be renewed for the number of days during which theaters are closed and reactivated automatically upon reopening. Subscribers remain subscribed throughout the year – “monthly” subscriptions only become truly monthly after the upfront annual contract that was part of the original contract expires.
Annual subscriptions
The company says that annual subscriptions are also frozen, and there is no option for early cancellation prior to the expiration of the one-year deadline. As with the monthly subscription, your contract will renew when theaters reopen.
Regal Crown Club GEM Credits, Rewards & Statuses
Subscribers may have been notified of expiration of rewards in their Regal app, but the company says that any credits, rewards or GEM statuses that expire when their theaters are closed will be returned to customers prior to reopening. Future credit expiration dates will be extended for the movie theater closings plus 30 days.
Birthday awards
Any birthday awards that expire during the closing time will be reinstated when theaters reopen. In addition, if your birthday falls on this time, the birthday reward will be downloaded directly to your Regal Unlimited subscription prior to theaters opening.
Can I cancel or not?
A Regal customer service representative contacted by phone told us there would be no refunds and confirmed official company policy. However, we have heard from readers that they have successfully canceled their membership by contacting customer service. Worth a try! Contact Regal support here .
Will Regal survive?
Of course, all of these subscriptions and fees could be eliminated if Regal files for bankruptcy, which is a real possibility. Regal’s owner, Cineworld, is highly leveraged, posting $ 1.6 billion in losses since April 1 and saying it is ” not sure ” about its future. Unfortunately for the subscribers, there isn’t much to do right now but wait and see what happens. This post has added more information on Regal’s no-limit cancellation policy.
