How to Celebrate World Tourism Day During a Global Pandemic

Today is World Tourism Day , and while travel opportunities have been severely limited throughout the year, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be celebrating. Yes, we are talking about virtual travel. (Again.) Like everyone else, we hit the digital journey pretty hard at the start of the pandemic when it looked like it would be a short-lived novelty. But a few months later, we are still mostly stuck at home.

Even if you cycled through museums , parks and the International Space Station early on, you’ll be glad to hear that there are more virtual travel opportunities than ever before. And just in time for World Tourism Day, Google Arts & Culture has put together a new collection of cultural attractions around the world that you can visit from the comfort of your living room. Here’s what’s available.

Where can I visit virtually?

There are so many virtual travel options at this stage that it can be difficult to know where to start. Luckily, Google has made this easy by combining collections to help you navigate their offerings. Let’s take a look:

Museums

Have you always wanted to visit the Musée d’Orsay in Paris or the Ohara Art Museum in Japan? Well, now you have a chance, and you won’t have to wander through galleries for hours to find the works that interest you the most. Visit the landing page to search, scroll or use the map to find the perfect museum.

Street view

Take a look at some of the world’s most famous landmarks in Google Street View . This includes places like the Taj Mahal , the Palace of Versailles , the Great Pyramid of Giza, and the Colosseum .
