How Big Are Next-Gen Consoles?

Buying a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X is going to be a big investment, and not just in monetary terms. These consoles will not only set you back several hundred dollars (at least), but they will also take up a lot of space in your room. Illustrator and Twitter user @Keisawada created mockups showing how big the PS5, PS5 Digital, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S are:

Keisawada included PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and regular-sized TVs as a benchmark.

These boxes will be large.

Given the industry trends of the past few years, it is likely that we will see more compact and sleeker PS5 and Xbox Series X in the future. Some gamers may take this as (another) excuse to wait for the update, but it will take a while before the announcements are made. smaller iterations of any console (if ever), and it’s possible the new models could be even bigger – the PS4 Pro was, after all, larger than the original PS4.

If you’re used to storing massive desktop gaming PCs, neither the PS5 nor the Xbox Series X should keep you going. But if you’re used to the latest generation of equipment taking up less space, it’s time to rip out that measuring tape. To help you plan your new setup, here are the specific dimensions for each new console starting with the PS5.

PS5 and PS5 Digital Dimensions

  • PS5 : 390mm x 104mm x 260mm (approximately 15.4 “x 4” x 10.2 “) and 9.92 lb (4.5kg)
  • PS5 Digital: 390mm x 92mm x 260mm (approximately 15.4 “x 3.6” x 10.2 “) and 8.59 lb (3.9 kg)

These numbers do not include the full height of the PS5’s strange fins, which means you might need 16 inches or more for this thing. In fact, based on Keisawada’s layouts, if the PS5 is going to be almost as tall as a 30-inch TV upright. Plan accordingly.

Xbox Series X and Series S dimensions

  • Xbox Series X: 301mm x 151mm x 151mm (11.85in x 5.94in x 5.94in) & 8.4lb (3.81kg)
  • Xbox Series S: 275 x 151 x 63.5 mm (10.82 x 5.94 x 2.5 inches) and 6.4 lbs (2.9 kg)

The Xbox Series X and Series S are more manageable compared to the PS5 juggernaut, but the X will also take up a lot of space. Series S should be more or less neatly slotted instead of your Xbox One or Xbox One X, but Series X will clearly need a lot more space.
