How to Take Part in a Ridley Scott Documentary

Have you ever thought that you would be the perfect character for a documentary? Is it beneficial for the rest of the world to look into your daily life? Probably not (unless you are a narcissist … are you a narcissist?), But if you enjoy participating in a documentary produced by Ridley Scott , now is your chance. Here’s what you need to know.

What is Life in One Day?

This project is called “Life in One Day”, its first iteration was created back in 2010:

Scott also produced this original version, which currently has over 16 million views on YouTube. Using over 80,000 clips submitted by people from 189 countries, director Kevin MacDonald and his team combed 4,500 hours of footage to create a 90-minute feature film depicting the events of one day on July 24, 2010. The film premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and can still be viewed on YouTube .

How to participate

The idea is to create a one-day film “time capsule” on July 25, 2020. Basically, you just shoot the events unfolding on your day on that day (or on someone’s day, with their consent) and upload it here before August 2, 2020 . Scott and MacDonald would like you to address the following in your video:

  • What do you like?
  • What are you afraid of?
  • What would you like to change? Either about the world, or about your own life.
  • What’s in your pocket?

This video may also answer some of your questions:

Once applications are closed, researchers and editors will review the clips and decide what will end up in the final film. If your footage is featured, the team will contact you later this year. The film will premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

Before uploading footage, be sure to carefully review the requirements and complete and submit a performance authorization form . If you have any other data protection questions while participating in this project, they are discussed here .

And even if you’re not interested in getting involved, the site also has some basic helpful tips for making your own movie, which means your next video of your dog doing something adorable may be your best.
