How to Fix the Latest Windows 10 “No Internet Connection” Error

Windows 10 updates tend to break things, and the latest Windows 10 version 2004 update is no exception. According to numerous forum posts, the latest pesky bug prevents Windows 10 apps from accessing the Internet even if the computer is successfully connected and your web browser is working fine.

Unfortunately, the error appears without warning or reason. If you see a yellow triangle with a No Internet Access error on the Windows 10 taskbar and cannot connect to the Internet in apps like Steam, Spotify, or Fortnite , but you can browse the web as usual, you have an error.

Microsoft has acknowledged this bug in a support forum thread and states that it is related to an issue with the Windows 10 network connection status indicator. The company is investigating the issue and will fix the issue after a solution is developed, but some users have already found a reliable workaround, which in the meantime should restore the network connection for your apps.

How to fix network connection error in Windows 10 version 2004

  1. Find “Registry Editor” by using the search bar on the Windows taskbar.
  2. Open Registry Editor from the search results and click Yes when prompted to allow the application to make changes.
  3. In Registry Editor, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet
  4. Right click on EnableActiveProbing and select Modify.
  5. Change the “Data Value” from 0 to 1.
  6. Click OK to close the window and save your changes.
  7. Close Registry Editor.
  8. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

If you’re lucky, your apps will be able to reconnect to the Internet after you restart your computer. If not, double check that you entered the correct registry fix. If you’re still out of luck, you may have to look for another solution or wait for a Microsoft patch.
