Secure the Mask That Is Too Loose With Two Knots
Any mask – even surgical or cloth – should fit snugly around the face. But since many masks have slits on the sides, here’s a quick trick to help you fit better.

You need a little slack in the earloops, so this trick works best for smaller faces, but it looks like this:
- Fold the mask horizontally to connect the two corners with a single earloop.
- Tie a knot as close to the mask as possible.
- Tuck the resulting dot inside the mask that closes the gap.
I tie knots behind the ears if the mask is too big (for me or for my kids), but that doesn’t solve the gap issue. It does.
