Block Political Ads on Facebook With “Social Fixer”

For those of you who still use Facebook , get ready for the best news the platform has put out over the years. If you’re not already tired of all the political ads floating through your channel, you will soon – unless you take advantage of the new feature that will hide every political ad on the social network right now with a few clicks.

Before you get too excited about your ad-free Facebook experience, you should know that this strategy won’t remove all ads in your feed; he will simply remove all political advertisements. But that’s no small feat in an election year like 2020, especially since I’m willing to bet that most of us are already firmly committed to our candidates, and an endless stream of dramatically sounded announcements telling you why a candidate is an asshole, isn’t it? ? I’m not going to change that.

Unfortunately Facebook has not yet launched this feature for everyone. Zuck buried the news of his debut in the last paragraph of the review he (or a Facebook copywriter) wrote for USA Today, and Facebook explained to CNBC who might see it today on some users. For all others , a standard technology implementation schedule applies; someday you will be able to turn off all political ads, but when exactly is anyone’s guess.

When you finally access this feature, you will be able to turn off political ads in two different locations. Somewhere in your Facebook settings, there will be an ad option hidden to disable ads; you can keep checking to see if you can, watch this simple video:

As you can see, you can also turn off political ads directly from the individual political ads themselves. You will also be able to post political ads after the fact if you want to help Facebook tighten the filter for things that fall into the “political ads” category.

And don’t worry, Instagram users, you will also have the option to block political ads in your feed:

But I want to block annoying political ads right now .

I understand. I hate feature deployment too. It would be much better if everyone could access the declared function when it was announced – sorry product managers who can’t wait to tell me “well, actually.”

If you don’t have the option to block political ads on Facebook right now, I recommend trying our favorite Facebook Social Fixer extension. You can install it for Chrome , Edge Chromium, and Firefox through their respective add-on stores, and even Safari users can get it to work with a little creativity .

Once you’ve installed the extension in your browser, open Facebook and click the Social Fixer icon in the upper right corner of the page to access its settings (via the Social Fixer Options link). From there, select the Filters option in the sidebar and click the plus sign to the right of Election / Politics 2020 – or any other post categories and sponsored posts that you don’t want to mess up.

Consider hiding all sponsored or suggested posts from your news feed, which should eliminate all annoying ads, not just political ones. And even if you’ve used Social Fixer to clean up your Facebook feed, I recommend checking out its official No More Political Ads tool. Turning it on as soon as possible will give you a double dose of preventing politicking.
