Get Notified When Your Favorite Directors Release New Films

I miss movies; more importantly, I avoid going to the movies. But I also completely forgot about all of Hollywood in the last three months of quarantine. This is why I’m thrilled to see that someone has created a website – Director Alerts – to help you keep track of what happens to your favorite directors once the movie world is back on track.

Even though it now seems like no one is putting out anything more sophisticated than webcam home talk shows, the time will come when the cinematic machine is up and running again. Someday (soon?) There will be all sorts of funny distraction movies on the big screen that all six of you, who are legally allowed to be in the theater at the same time, can enjoy. You need a way to keep them updated.

Directories are easy to use. All you have to do is enter the names of your favorite directors – as many as you like – as well as your country and email address. The free service will then send you a notification when any of the directors on your list releases a new movie. While this is something you probably should be aware of anyway if you’re a superfan, Director Alerts is great for when you want to follow up with a new director with an intriguing career or someone who has impressed you without rushing. to your favorite list.

Since the site pulls its data from the movie database , I also assume that you will be notified if the specified movie is out in theaters or just goes straight to the streaming service. I haven’t tested this aspect yet, but I will do so with the release this Friday of Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island , which arrives this Friday for video-on-demand, not on the big screen.

The only downside to the site is that you are only allowed to select directors from a pre-populated list. If you’re a filmmaker with an interest only in lesser-known artists , your favorite films may not appear in Director’s Alerts at all. (If so, I suggest you hunt them down on social media and track their careers in the same way.) For everyone else, Director Alerts is a decent way to keep an eye on their favorites, and it will be even more important as the world of cinema slowly turns backward and begins to drop films at a regular frequency. Whenever it is.
