Blur Faces and Remove Metadata From IPhone Photos With This Shortcut

As demonstrations against police brutality and racial injustice continue across the country, applications that blur faces and remove metadata have become a necessary part of any protester’s toolbox. Such applications prevent unwanted surveillance and tracking of people in images and photographers taking pictures.

There is a software with open source, which can make it for you on any platform , but now iPhone users can blur the face and remove metadata from pictures with just one touch in iOS Shortcuts application. All you have to do is install the new “Blur Faces” shortcut from developer Noah Conk.

How to install and use the Blur Faces iOS shortcut

  1. Go to Settings> Shortcuts.
  2. Turn on “Allow untrusted shortcuts.”
  3. Click “Allow” in the pop-up window.
  4. Enter your password when prompted.
  5. Exit the preferences menu and open this link in Safari.
  6. Click “Add untrusted shortcut” to install the shortcut.
  7. Once the installation is complete, open the shortcuts app.
  8. Tap the Face Blur shortcut to launch it for the first time, then give it permission to send data to a URL.

The shortcut is installed and configured and you can use it in several ways:

  • Shortcuts app : Open the Shortcuts app. Find and tap the Face Blur shortcut. Pick a photo and let the app do its thing.
  • Shortcuts widget panel: Click Face Blur in the Shortcuts widget panel and select the photos you want to process.
  • Share menu: Take a photo using the iPhone camera app, or highlight an image already saved on your phone. Scroll down in the sharing window and click Blur Faces.

Each method starts the same process and outputs a new copy of the photo with all time, location and device information removed, and faces blurred. Once you save a new version of your photo, you can safely upload it to social media without risking your privacy or that of anyone in the photo.
