Put Hash Browns in Your Breakfast Sandwich

I am fanatically addicted to breakfast sandwiches. I love how customizable (and therefore deeply personal) they are; More than any other food, ordering a sandwich for breakfast can tell you a lot about its character. Mine says one thing loud and clear: this bitch loves potatoes .

This is true. Potatoes are a pure product and I am always happy to see them, especially in a sandwich. I put French fries in my burgers, Lay’s in my sweets and, most decadent, brown pucks in my breakfast sandwiches. You should too.

When you think about it, adding potato pancakes to bacon, egg, and cheese is a snap, especially when you consider that they form the backbone of any self-respecting breakfast burrito. But like any great sandwich, there is more to it than meets the eye. After much deep thought and philosophical reflection, I came up with a four-point sentence to explain exactly why hash browns hit so hard in BEC:

  • Crunch: Unless you bring the bacon right up to the scalded area or toast the absolute bejesus from your bun, breakfast sandwiches won’t have a ton of textural contrast. Crispy fritters will fix that.
  • Effectiveness: BEC is just one potato, until a full breakfast – why not skip the middleman and put the potatoes right in the sandwich?
  • Meals: Your breakfast sandwiches are already stocking up, but the extra carb means breakfast will bring you a lot more.
  • Fat- based synergy : The hash browns are bold enough to integrate seamlessly into the BEC process. Where other unorthodox additions may be all too obvious, crisp is just at home – and if you’re a little hungover, acquaintance is always preferable to a taste surprise.

Obviously, I go all-in for life with brown hash BEC, but you don’t have to take my word for it: San Francisco Chronicle food critic Soleil Ho told Skillett that she also likes the brown puck on BEC, so you know it’s legal … Taking this path for yourself is as easy as grabbing a box of frozen brown burgers the next time you’re in the grocery store. McDonald’s hash pancakes are not, but they are close enough and you deserve it.
