How to Unblock Hidden Browser Games in Edge, Firefox and Chrome
Your web browser is full of secrets. I usually spend time learning new features that can be unlocked through pages like chrome: // flags and about: config , but it’s also a good idea to take a short break and play the hidden games that come with the most popular browsers.
Yes, the browser on your computer is full of hidden games. Don’t crack your knuckles and expect downward retrograde for Civilization VI – as a session – they’re not all that great. They are funny little time wasters though. At least it’s great to send them to your friends if you want to impress them with your technical know-how.
Microsoft Edge Chromium: Let’s Surf
We love Edge Chromium as a browser, period. It also features the best hidden game of them all: the summer version of the classic SkiFree or How I spent my time in the computer lab in grades 7 and 8.
To access it, make sure you update your browser to the latest version (using the three-dot icon in the top right corner> Help & Feedback> About Microsoft Edge ). Once you’ve done that, copy and paste the following into the address bar:
edge://surf
Okay, this is n’t SkiFree in the sense of ” going down a winter mountain and being eaten by a yeti,” but the gameplay is identical. Select a surfer and use the arrow keys on your keyboard (or WSAD) to dodge left and right (or increase your speed by pressing the down arrow a few times). If you pick up the green lightning, press “F” on your keyboard to increase your speed. Increase.
But that’s not all: hit the menu button in the upper right corner of the title screen of the game – something I completely missed at first on my ultra-wide display – and you can play in different modes: Let’s Surf (endless), time trial or Olympic zigzag “Through a special gate.
It’s fun? Absolutely. At least the nostalgia factor is worth a few minutes of surfing before you return to surfing.
Google Chrome: Dinosaur Game
You usually see a screen from this game if you lose your network connection and Chrome cannot load the page, which gives you the classic “ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED” message with a friendly dinosaur in a western setting.
However, you can also play this endless runner game by typing the following into the address bar:
chrome://dino
You will receive the corresponding error page. All you have to do to start running is to press the space bar. Your aim? Jump over the cacti. That’s all. To be honest, I miss the version where the dinosaur could be wearing a party hat, but that’s just me.
Mozilla Firefox: Pong
Why are you making it difficult, Mozilla? Firefox also comes with a hidden game, but Mozilla forces you to work a lot harder to access it than the competition.
To unlock the game, right-click on the toolbar and select Customize. On the screen that appears, you’ll want to drag each icon into its OverFlow menu, which should ultimately leave you with only the Flexible Space option on the home screen.
Then you should see the unicorn icon pop up in the bottom row of buttons, for example:
Click on it and you can play pong with a flexible space bar that serves as a block for jumping … unicorns? We cannot come up with this.
