What Should You Do About Your Upcoming International Interview

Most likely, you have no immediate plans to go on an international trip right now. However, if you tried to register with Global Entry earlier this year, you will have to wait until at least June to complete the process.

The US Customs and Border Protection Administration announced last week that it will suspend registrations in programs such as Global Entry, SENTRI, and NEXUS indefinitely, but at least until June 1.

This means that if you were conditionally approved for any of these services and you had an appointment for that month, this will no longer be the case.

Conditionally Approved Applicants who require an interview will need to reschedule this appointment until after June 1, and if we’re being honest, you can reschedule it a bit later just in case. Global Entry appointments are notoriously difficult to schedule, so you can also wait a bit, even if you try to schedule them in the first available time.

There is some good news on this front: In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Customs and Border Patrol extended the period of time that the app remains active, so you now have 485 days from your application date to complete the enrollment process.

If you already have a Global Entry and need to renew, CBP has also decided to renew the benefits for those already registered for 18 months, provided you apply for renewal before your current membership expires.

However, check-in desks are still open on arrival , so if you happen to return to the United States from an international trip, you can still get an interview on arrival, at least for now.
