If You Are Using the Key Ring App, Please Update Your Account Security Now

If you are using the popular Key Ring digital wallet app, you need to update your security immediately. The app recently accidentally exposed the personal information of over 44 million users due to misconfigured Amazon Web Service (AWS) cloud servers. The leak was discovered by data security firm vpnMentor , which verified important user details such as full names, dates of birth, emails, and postal addresses. loyalty card information could have been compromised by improperly secured servers. How long the data has been available – and whether it has been accessed by anyone outside of Key Ring – is currently unclear, and Key Ring has not made a public statement about the leak.

Keychain users should take some time to update the security settings for any accounts associated with your keychain app, and perhaps rethink if using a keychain is the best option. For those looking to go further and ditch the King Ring altogether, there are several other digital wallet apps to consider.

Apple Pay (iOS)

IOS users might want to look into Apple Pay . It can handle pretty much anything you need a digital wallet for: store and use a variety of payment methods, track loyalty programs, and even send money to other Apple users. The app is linked to your Apple account and can be used in the App Store for in-app purchases, online purchases, and as a contactless payment option at many physical stores.

Google Pay (Android)

Google Pay is the obvious choice for Android users, especially those with a Pixel device, as the app is preinstalled and recently updated with a new quick access wallet menu . It can contain multiple payment options and loyalty cards, and can also be used to store airplane tickets and event tickets, and even pay for public transportation in many cities. Of course, it can also be used as a payment method in shops, restaurants and online stores.

Other

Apple Pay and Google Pay are both decent apps, but one of the benefits of Key Ring is that they are n’t owned by a major tech company like Google or Apple. If you’d like to continue using a third-party app to manage your loyalty cards, we have a few more suggestions. Granted, some are nowhere near as advanced as Apple’s or Google’s own options, but they could be worthy keychain replacements for those now looking for a different solution.

  • Maps (free for Android ) – Stores everything from bank cards, loyalty cards and ID cards to tickets, boarding passes, and NFC keys. Please note that payment options may be limited by some providers.
