Start Your Weekend With a Quarantine Queen

Today is Friday, or at least that’s what my phone tells me, but every day is pretty much like every other day and the “weekend” is no longer the same. But as the Countess reminded us yesterday , tradition is important, so we could just as well have a little IGIF cocktail – “I think it’s Friday.”

I don’t know if you give a lot of attention to those in the cocktail scene, but they really do their part as best they can – giving us drink recipes and inspiring them while staying at home. Barstool historian and cocktail author David Vondrich contributes by posting daily cocktail lesson themes – along with photos – called “Lo-Fi Lush Hour,” and they fucking rule.

Recently – I forgot what day because time has lost much of its meaning – Vondrich posted a vintage three-ingredient cocktail from the Russian Tea House, perfect for holding out “half a Tito pen and a couple of dusty bottles of liquor.” … “

The name is, um, not a good one, but the ingredients are good, so let’s just call this quarantine queen and drink to it. If you don’t have Benedictines, Vondrich has alternative sentences in his conversation that you should read in full. To make the Queen of Quarantine, you will need:

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 30 g benedictine (or another high-plant liquor)
  • 1 drop of bitter

Pour everything into a mixing glass filled with ice and stir until very cold. This is a pretty cool drink and really needs to be watered down. Strain into the chilled compartment and enjoy. Garnish with a strip of lemon zest, if you have one.
