Tax Day Is Now July 15th

Just a few days ago , Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced that you can defer your income tax payment for 90 days if you still filed your tax return by the usual April 15th deadline.

But everything has changed, according to Mnuchin’s tweet. New Tax Day – July 15th. Everyone, including businesses, will have an additional 90 days to file tax returns and make tax payments “without interest or penalties,” the secretary said.

You don’t have to apply for an extension to get this extra time – it’s automatic for everyone.

Mnuchin said in another tweet that if you are expecting a refund, you should still file your tax return as soon as possible.

The deferred due date also includes the estimated taxes due for the first quarter of 2020, including self-employment taxes.

The IRS website has not yet been updated with details of the changes, but we will update this post as more information becomes available.
