Get the Latest Information on COVID-19 From WHO Using WhatsApp

As information changes rapidly, it is difficult to find the most recent and up-to-date information on COVID-19. Today, the World Health Organization announced a new health alert system via WhatsApp. The free service is designed to help answer some of the questions the public may have about the coronavirus. Available 24 hours a day.

To access it, you will need a WhatsApp account, which is also free.

In WhatsApp, text “Hello” to +41 79 893 1892 .

When you do, the service will send a text message with multiple labels for the types of information you can get from it. For example, text message “1” will give you the last digits, while text message “2” or a thumbs up emoji will give you information on how to protect yourself.

The service is currently only available in English, but will be available in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish in the coming weeks.
