How to Tell If an IPhone Bug Is Eating up Your Data Plan
Strange iOS bug is eating up mobile data and increasing monthly bills of iPhone users. This may not affect you, but it’s worth checking out (just in case).
The bug has been reported on all iPhones running iOS 13 and affects almost all major cellular providers. Some users see that only a few kilobytes of their data plan are affected, while others report the loss of several gigabytes of data due to the error. In any case, it eats up your data plan; even if you are using an unlimited data plan, you may experience service throttling if your phone stops working altogether.
You can check if your iPhone is affected by going to Settings> Cellular and scrolling down to the Cellular Data section. Find the phrase “Uninstalled Applications” in the list . I guess the number should be pretty big. This is fine. Scroll down a ton and click “Reset Statistics”. Now wait a few days and check that number again – if your “Uninstalled Apps” count is skyrocketing to the top of your data usage chart and you haven’t uninstalled any apps in that time, you have a problem. …
Unfortunately, there is no way to fix this error, except for moving to iOS 12, which you cannot do. On the other hand, Apple has acknowledged the bug and says it is working on a fix, although we do not know when it will appear.
I’ve seen suggestions for users to stop using their iPhones altogether, but you should probably contact your service provider first and explain the problem, then report the bug directly to Apple. Even though the patch is not yet available, you will probably get better advice than “quit your iPhone” and perhaps be able to fix account issues caused by data interception threats. However, you might need to restrict using your iPhone (or swapping to another device if you have one) until Apple fixes the problem.
If all else fails, then I think you can seal your phone in a Faraday bag, dump it in the ocean, and buy Android instead. We’re kidding. (Somewhat.)
