Wash Your Hands With Your Favorite Song Instead of “Happy Birthday”
I can’t do this anymore. If I sing to myself the words “happy birthday” again, wash my hands, I can catch fire. Today is my birthday and the last thing I want to hear is this song. In the video above, I found a solution.
One of the best ways to fight the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is to wash your hands regularly. The CDC recommends washing your hands for 20 seconds, which is roughly the time it takes to sing yourself “Happy Birthday” twice. Imagine doing this almost a dozen times a day.
Luckily, a 17-year-old developer named William has created a fun tool that takes a hand-washing guide from the UK’s NHS and automatically replaces the lyrics with the words of your favorite song. A tool called Wash Your Lyrics is incredibly easy to use. Just enter the title and artist of your favorite song, and lyrics from Genius will be added to the NHS handwashing guide.
Obviously he’s not perfect for every song. Some songs work well and can be precisely timed to reach the 20 second target. Others are too verbose or lagging behind. But there is no doubt that washing Lizzo’s hands is objectively better than Happy Birthday.
