Take a Quick Photo of Your Child Before Heading Out to Public

Even the most diligent parents can suddenly lose sight of their children, especially in crowded and attention-grabbing places such as amusement parks, fairs and shopping centers. This week , Reddit user ChadNFreud made a great suggestion on what to do before you find yourself in an overcrowded situation with a child or adult with difficulty: take a photo.

The photo certainly won’t stop you from losing sight of your baby, but it can make finding him much easier, as you will get a recent photo of him in the clothes they were in when you unexpectedly split up.

This photo can serve as a reminder to you, for example, that your child was wearing a red shirt, and can quickly and easily be handed over to security, who will know without question that they are looking at your child if they find them.

In the comments on ChadNFreud’s post, several other parents have come up with their own ideas.

Another good option is to choose a meeting place if you drift apart. For example, you might tell your child to head to the diner at Target if they can’t find you. For larger events like amusement parks, a good plan is to tell your child to stay exactly where they are if they lose sight of you. When you realize that they are gone, you can go back and find them where you were separated. If a child tries to hunt you, you risk missing each other in the search.

The key is to have a plan, even if you don’t think you’ll need it, that you’re confident your child can remember and follow. And it definitely doesn’t hurt to take a shot before you start.
