If You’re Over 65, You Can Get the Apple Watch Series 5 for $ 49

Apple is collaborating with Johnson & Johnson in the Heartline Study, which tests the Apple Watch’s ability to detect atrial fibrillation (AFib), an early sign of stroke. Anyone over the age of 65 can get the Apple Watch Series 5 for as little as $ 49, a huge discount from the regular $ 400 price tag.

The study is expected to attract 150,000 participants, half of whom will be eligible to buy the Apple Watch Series 5 for just $ 49 at Best Buy. The study is also open to those who already own an Apple watch, and some participants can receive up to $ 150 cash compensation just for participating in the study.

Here are the requirements for admission to the Heartline Study:

  • Must be 65 years of age or older; you do not need a preliminary diagnosis of AFib to qualify.
  • Be a US resident with original Medicare coverage.
  • You have an iPhone 6 or later with iOS 12.2 or later.

You can apply to study here . Please note that not all applicants will be selected to participate in the study. You will also need to wear an Apple Watch — if you are required to use it for the study — “every day during the two-year active phase of the study.” You’ll spend three years in total helping Apple and Johnson & Johnson with this study, but time will fly by, especially if you’re already used to wearing smartwatches every day.
