How to Fix the User Profile Error in the Latest Windows 10 Patch

Once again, the latest Windows 10 patch, KB4532693 , can run you into an annoying error. Some Windows users who installed it reported that their Windows user profile – and all the data and applications in it – were not loaded when they logged in.

It is alarming that there is a sudden lack of data and setting all OS parameters to their defaults without warning, but the good news is that the error is not in deleting your profile or your data.

Instead, Windows renamed your regular user profile folder and then created and loaded a temporary user profile when you boot your PC. The original but renamed profile should still be visible if you open C:> Users and find the renamed .ooo or .bak file. Thus, your profile is not available, but there are ways to get it back.

Reddit users have reported that restarting Windows several times fixed the error, but there is no agreement on how many restarts are required, or why it works (or whether that’s really what fixes the bug). A more consistent option is to simply uninstall the update until Microsoft fixes everything.

  1. Open the Windows 10 Start menu and click the gear-shaped settings icon.
  2. In the Settings window, select Update & Security> View Update History> Uninstall Updates .
  3. Using the search box, search for “Update for Windows 10 Autopilot KB4532441”.
  4. Highlight the update, then click the Remove button at the top of the list.
  5. Click Yes.
  6. Wait for the uninstallation to complete and restart your computer if necessary.
