How to Virtually Try on Lipstick Using Pinterest

If you’re looking for a new lipstick shade, you can now try a few options on Pinterest. This week, Interest launched a new makeup tool that lets you try different shades of lipstick from the comfort of your home.

This feature is similar to what’s already offered in apps from brands like L’OrĂ©al, Sephora, and Sally Beauty, with one key difference: it doesn’t apply a filter to your face when you add this lipstick.

If you’ve tried any of these options, you’ve probably noticed that in addition to lips of different colors, they all apply a filter to your face that smooths out imperfections and makes it look like you did a face full of makeup, and not just a different lip color. While this might be what you want if you’re taking selfies, if you’re actually trying to see what lip color might look like on you, the feature might not be that great.

Pinterest’s Fitting Tool is available exclusively on iOS and Android apps. It currently includes lipstick shades from Estee Lauder, Sephora, bareMinerals, Neutrogena, Loreal, NYX Professional Makeup, YSL, Lancome, and Urban Decay, and other partnerships are reportedly in development.

To use it, open your Pinterest smart camera and then click Try it to see all currently available lipstick options. You can also find lipstick options by searching for “red lipstick.” When you find something you like, you can save it to your board to access it later, or purchase it directly from the Buy Now link in the app.

It’s certainly not a foolproof solution to find out what a lipstick shade might look like on you, but it can be a great way to figure out if that red fire truck you’re about to buy is going to be a hit or not. slip as soon as you put it on.
