Test Your Cardio Fitness in Our Year-End Test

We’ve done some strength and flexibility tests, so I guess it’s fair to do them for cardio. Your Fitbit or Apple Watch might give you some numbers like VO2max, but I prefer the simpler test.

My main cardio pastime right now is running, so I’m thinking about getting the distance on my feet. Instead, you can do it with a bike or anything else that can provide stable measurements. For example, elliptical trainers vary, but if you have an exercise bike or a real bike that you can trust to get the right distance, do so.

The test is simple: drive one mile at any speed. You can walk, run, or mix. (Or flip it over and see how much distance you can cover in ten minutes.) The result usually gives you the perfect data point to plan your training pace using a calculator like this one from Jack Daniels (not whiskey, other guy ).
