How to Use the New Instagram Layout Mode

An all-new Instagram update has finally added a much-requested feature to the app: Users can upload a collage of multiple photos into a single Instagram story and use the new Layout mode to create more engaging posts.

Instagram’s layout mode for Story Posts might be missing some of the customization options or additional features that some third-party alternatives have, but it’s a much more convenient option. You don’t need to install anything extra, switch between multiple apps, or fiddle with a lot of copies and inserts – now it all happens in the main Instagram app.

How to Create Posts from Multi-Photo Stories on Instagram

The layout feature for Instagram Stories is rolling out globally today, although the exact availability may differ depending on your device and region. If you can’t find the new option by following the instructions below, make sure you update the Instagram app on iOS or Android . If an option is still not available, sit still – it should be available soon.

For those who already have the option, here’s how it works:

  1. Open Instagram and tap the camera icon in the upper left corner of the app to start a new Story post.
  2. Swipe left on the bottom options carousel until you find Layout.
  3. Take some photos to include in your story post (you can include up to six photos in total).
  4. Choose the grid layout you want to use for your collage. There are several layout options to choose from (and, no, you won’t be able to edit every single photo in the layout).
  5. Similar to regular Instagram Stories, you can add other elements like text, tags, filters, emojis, pictures, GIFs, and more.
  6. When you are satisfied with the layout and ready to share, click Send to Story.
