The Best Non-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Movies

Thanksgiving is approaching, which for those of us who avoid family during the holidays means a day dedicated to watching TV or laptop screens for hours. If you are not in the spirit of the holiday, perhaps because you are spending it alone, we understand this . However, you don’t want to forget about the day completely, do you?

Below are a few movies worth watching this Thanksgiving (without the extra constant reminder to spend with friends or family). Sometimes the best vacations are those when you don’t see anyone and stay in comfort on the couch sweating.

Addams family values

If you’re looking for something less festive or joyful, The Addams Family Values is a heck of a treasure, if only for Joan Cusack and Christina Ricci (and the many GIFs I still use thanks to this movie). Ricci is played by Wednesday Addams, who, while at summer camp, puts on a coup, recreating the very first Thanksgiving meal (albeit in a very violent way).

Beethoven

Is Beethoven a movie about a huge clumsy dog who is also genius in some way? Abandoned by a pet shop thief, Beethoven is adopted by the family and, as expected, ruined the Thanksgiving dinner, among other jokes that arise from the family somehow neglecting his training for years.

Airplanes, trains and cars

Steve Martin icon and planes, trains and cars, directed by John Hughes, is a testament to that. In case you haven’t seen him, Martin’s character is trying to get home by Thanksgiving after several predictable transportation mishaps. The film also features the late John Candy, aka Home Alone and Cool Run . Without spoiling it, the ending is bittersweet, and I think I’m crying?

You have a new message

Year 1998. Clinton – President. Ginger Spice leaves Spice Girls. “And You’ve Got Mail” debuts Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. There is exactly one famous Thanksgiving scene in the film in which Ryan’s character is denied a credit card while shopping at Zabar’s and Hanks has to come to the rescue.

Family stone

“Stone family” with Diane Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Sarah Jessica Parker and Claire Danes in the lead roles – this is a movie about a woman desperately trying to win the family arrangement her boyfriend during the holidays. In fact, none of this takes place on Thanksgiving Day, but I encourage you, the reader, still watch it. This movie has become something of a cult movie because of how dissimilar most of the characters are, and yet it’s a classic. Who are you rooting for in the group of characters who are all such assholes? This is amazing!
