Organize Downloads Automatically With This Chrome Extension

Chrome: I download a lot. We do everything. In my case, my Windows Downloads folder is basically my gimmick for everything I’m working on, as well as the main archive for files and folders that I need to save elsewhere (but haven’t done yet). This means that the said Downloads folder may become uncontrolled and I found a new Chrome extension to fix this.

You can probably guess what the extension does just by its name: ” Sort Downloads by Date . It has no reviews at the time of this writing, so I usually hesitate to recommend it, but the full source code is available for viewing on GitHub – that’s all.

Install this extension, which I first heard about on Ghacks , and it will automatically put whatever you download in new folders (in the default download folder) based on the date you downloaded that item. In other words, you will start seeing parent folders by year – 2019 and soon 2020 – with folders for each month you uploaded the item.

The extension by programmer Lucas Bustamante is simple, but that’s all you need. If you need help finding the folder that contains what you’ve downloaded, just search in File Explorer or Finder. This extension is great for keeping you organized precisely because you don’t need to do anything to make it work. All of these folders are made for you; you just have to worry about uploading files, which shouldn’t be too tedious.

And, yes, you can just right click on the downloads folder in Windows, for example, and choose to group all files by their creation date. However, this is just a visual fix. Your downloads folder will still be a mess, while the Organize Downloads by Date extension solves this basic issue without issue.
