Sign up for a Free Year of Apple TV + Now
Nov. 1! And you know what that means – if you purchased an Apple product anytime on September 10th or later, you earned a free one year trial of Apple’s streaming service. However, it won’t just magically appear for you; you need to activate it first.
And that’s not the only caveat with today’s Apple TV + launch. But let’s start with the primary qualifications. In order to receive a free year, you will need to purchase one of the following items (or will need to have purchased one on September 10th or later): a new iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV, or Mac.
Simple enough, right? However, the free trial is exactly what its name implies. And subscribing to it will automatically include you in a recurring monthly subscription, which starts at the end of your annual free subscription, unless you cancel. Yes, such an accusation will surely surprise many. Worse, others may not check their credit card statements as closely and find themselves paying for them longer than they planned.
Now that that hasn’t happened, signing up for a year of free Apple TV + is a pretty straightforward process. As Apple describes :
- Turn on your new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, or Mac and sign in with your Apple ID.
- Open the Apple TV app on or after November 1st. Make sure your eligible device has the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, or macOS.
- The proposal must be submitted immediately after launching the application. If not, scroll down to Watch Now until you see a suggestion.
- Click “Enjoy 1 Year Free”. You may be asked to enter your Apple ID password, verify your billing information, or add a valid payment method. You will not be charged for the 1 year free trial.
Don’t waste time setting up your Apple TV + Free Year, though. Apple notes that its offer is only available for a “limited time.” More importantly, the offer may expire. If you set up your device before November 1st, you have three months from today to activate your 1-year free trial; if you wait until today to set up a new device, then a three month countdown will begin.
