How to Enable Dark Mode for Gmail in IOS

Finally, my favorite email app goes into dark mode. And if you’re lucky, you can already take advantage of the new Gmail feature on iOS and Android . We’ve already written about the latter, and we now have a quick guide to turning on dark mode on the former – if you can access it.

I say that, like me, Google, as always, is rolling out a dark mode feature for Gmail users. You can get it; could you. Make sure you have the latest version of Gmail from the App Store before trying it, and if you still can’t turn on dark mode, set yourself a reminder to check it in a week or so and try again. … (It’s worth the wait.)

To get started with dark mode in Gmail for iOS, you need to enable the system-wide dark theme in iOS itself:

  1. Pull settings
  2. Tap screen and brightness.
  3. Click “Dark” under ” Appearance” . (If you’re using automatic mode, be aware that your theme will switch between light and dark depending on how you set it up.)

This should be all you need; once you access dark mode in the Gmail app, the app theme should switch automatically. However, if you are opting for the light side for the system-wide look and feel on iOS but want to give Gmail a more intimidating look for whatever reason, you can also turn on dark mode in the app. As CNET describes:

  1. Bump up your Gmail app
  2. Tap the hamburger icon in the upper left corner.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom and click on ” Settings”.
  4. Click on the new ” Theme ” option, if there is one, and select “Dark”.

I’ll admit, dark mode hasn’t been implemented in my iOS version of Gmail yet, so I can’t give you a pretty screenshot of it. But I hope that I – and you – become darker soon. I can not wait.
